Description

The milling machine is used for shaping metal and other materials. Not only can the milling machine drill a hole straight down like a drill press, the material can be placed into the side of the tool and allow for shaping of the flanks. Milling machines can perform a vast number of operations --- drilling, cutting, planing, keyway and slot cutting, diesinking, routing, rebating and so much more.

Turning is performed on a machine called a lathe in which the tool is stationary and the work-piece is rotated, perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling. The raw material is in “round shape “ to create an object which has symmetry about an axis of rotation
